Questions and answers

In short

Loosn is self-directed credit dispute software for the United States. Its AI reads your credit report, flags what may be inaccurate under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and drafts dispute letters citing the relevant section. You review and approve every letter and you are the sender of record on every envelope. Anyone can dispute inaccurate information directly with the credit bureaus, free of charge.

Everything below is answered in full on this page, so an answer read on its own still carries its qualifications. No outcome is promised, accurate negative information can legally remain on a credit report, and only the credit bureau or the furnisher can change what appears on yours. This is general information about the credit reporting system, not legal advice.

The six asked most often

Is Loosn a credit repair organization?
Loosn is built as self-directed software. We provide AI analysis, letter templates, and an optional mailing service (via Lob.com on Pro+Auto-Send). You review and approve every dispute, and you are the sender of record on every letter — each envelope goes out in your name and from your address. When you use Auto-Send, Lob is a print-and-mail provider that prints and mails that letter at your instruction, after you approve that specific send; Loosn does not negotiate, argue, or communicate with a bureau or creditor on your behalf, and does not respond to them for you. You can always dispute inaccurate information directly with the bureaus yourself, free of charge.
What happens if an item doesn't get removed?
No one can guarantee a removal — outcomes depend on your specific file and on what the bureau and furnisher can verify. Under the FCRA, bureaus must investigate your dispute, and if an item is verified, Loosn helps you prepare the next round (escalation, debt validation, or goodwill letters). You can cancel your subscription at any time.
How long does the dispute process take?
FCRA gives bureaus 30 days to respond, extendable to 45 if you submit additional documentation during the investigation. How many rounds a file takes varies case by case, and multiple rounds (escalation letters, debt validation, goodwill) are normal — Loosn drafts each one for you to review and send.
Is my SSN safe?
Your SSN is encrypted with AES-256-GCM the moment you submit it. We never log it, never email it, never display it after entry. Stored as ciphertext only.
Will this hurt my credit?
Filing a dispute does not directly lower your score. If a bureau verifies the item, it stays on your file; if it's deleted, your report reflects that. Changes to your report can affect your score in either direction depending on your overall file — Loosn shows you the AI's reasoning for each item so you can decide what to dispute.
Can I cancel?
Yes — anytime, from your billing settings. No long-term commitment.

The dispute process and the law

What is FCRA Section 611?
Section 611 of the Fair Credit Reporting Act — 15 U.S.C. § 1681i — is the provision that creates the dispute process. When you tell a credit bureau that information in your file is inaccurate or incomplete, Section 611 obliges the bureau to conduct a reasonable reinvestigation, to forward the relevant information to the furnisher that reported the item, and to complete the investigation within 30 days of receiving your dispute.
How long does a credit bureau have to respond to a dispute?
30 days from receipt of the dispute, under FCRA Section 611. The window extends to 45 days if you provide additional relevant information during the investigation period. The bureau also has to send you written notice of the result within five business days of completing the investigation.
What happens if the bureau cannot verify an item?
Under FCRA Section 611, information that cannot be verified — or that is found to be inaccurate or incomplete — must be deleted or modified. Verification means the furnisher confirmed the data when the bureau forwarded the dispute to it, so a 'verified' result means the furnisher stood behind what it reported, not that a court examined it.
Can I dispute an item that is accurate?
You can file a dispute about anything you believe is inaccurate or incomplete, but accurate negative information can legally remain on your credit report. A dispute asks the bureau to check specific reported fields; it is not a route to removing an item whose reporting is correct. Anyone claiming otherwise is describing an outcome nobody controls.
What is a furnisher, and can I dispute with one directly?
A furnisher is the company that reported the information to the bureau — the lender, the card issuer, the collection agency. FCRA Section 623(a)(8) — 15 U.S.C. § 1681s-2 — creates a duty for a furnisher to investigate a dispute it receives directly from a consumer. That route matters when the disputed fact is one only the furnisher holds, such as whether a balance was paid.
What does it mean if my dispute is called frivolous?
FCRA Section 611(a)(3) lets a bureau end an investigation it reasonably determines is frivolous or irrelevant, including where it has not been given enough information to investigate. If that happens, the bureau has to notify you within five business days and identify what information it needs. That notice is the clearest statement you will get of what a resubmission requires.

The letters, and who sends them

What is actually in a Loosn dispute letter?
The account named as it appears on that bureau's report, the specific field being disputed, what the record shows, and a citation to the section of the FCRA that obliges the bureau to investigate it. Your name and address appear as the sender. You see the full letter before anything happens with it.
Who mails the letters?
On Starter and Pro, you do — you download the PDF and mail it yourself. On Pro + Auto-Send and Concierge, Loosn routes the letter through a print-and-mail provider that prints and mails it at your instruction, after you approve that specific send. You are the sender of record on every envelope either way.
Does Loosn talk to the bureaus or my creditors for me?
No. Loosn does not negotiate, argue, or communicate with a credit bureau or a creditor, and does not respond to them for you. Correspondence goes out in your name and from your address, and responses come back to you. You can also run this entire process yourself, free of charge, without any software.
What happens when a bureau responds?
You upload the response and Loosn AI reads it, summarises what the bureau said, and identifies what type of follow-up applies — a further dispute, a request to the furnisher, or a goodwill letter to the original creditor. It drafts the next letter for you to review. How many rounds a file takes varies case by case.
Do I have to sign anything?
Your typed name and the date appear on the letter, and you can add a drawn signature. Auto-Send packets can also include your ID image and a proof of address, because bureaus commonly ask for identity documentation with a mailed dispute. You approve each packet before it is printed.

Plans, billing and cancelling

What do the plans cost?
Starter is $19 a month and includes the AI credit scan and your first three dispute letters. Pro is $49 and adds unlimited letters and automated follow-up rounds. Pro + Auto-Send is $79 and includes three certified letters mailed each month, with additional letters at $9.99 each. Concierge is $199 and adds a human reviewer on every round.
Is there a free plan or a free trial?
No. Loosn is a paid subscription from the first month, and there is no free tier. The guides on this site are free to read whether or not you subscribe, and the underlying dispute process is one you may run yourself, directly with the bureaus, at no cost.
Can I cancel?
Yes, at any time, from your billing settings. There is no long-term commitment and no cancellation fee. Cancelling stops future billing; it does not delete letters you have already generated, which stay available for download until you delete your account.
Why do the certified letters cost extra?
Because a certified letter has a real postage and handling cost, and Loosn passes it through rather than folding it into the subscription. Pro + Auto-Send includes three per month; beyond that a letter is $9.99, itemised on your invoice. Loosn takes no commission on mailing.

Your data and your Social Security number

Why does Loosn need my Social Security number?
Because a dispute letter has to identify you to the bureau well enough for it to find your file, and the bureaus use the SSN for that. It is entered once during onboarding, encrypted immediately, and used only to populate the identification block of the letters you approve.
How is my SSN stored?
Encrypted with AES-256-GCM the moment you submit it, and stored only as ciphertext with its initialisation vector and authentication tag in separate fields. It is never written to logs, never emailed, and never displayed again after entry — including to us.
What happens to my credit report PDF?
It is stored in private file storage tied to your account, and the extracted items are stored as structured records so the app can show you what was found. It is not shared with advertisers or data brokers. You can delete your documents from your settings.
Does Loosn sell or share my data?
No. Your credit data is used to produce your analysis and your letters, and for nothing else. The full detail of what is collected, how long it is kept and who processes it is in the Privacy Policy, which is linked in the footer of every page.
Is Loosn available in Spanish?
Yes. The entire product, every guide, and the transactional emails exist in English and Spanish, and dispute letters can be generated in either language. Under the FCRA and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, a dispute is not weaker for being written in Spanish.
